What will become of the bulbs?

Due to the unseasonably mild January weather, loads of spring bulbs have started to sprout in the garden. But now the weather is on the turn I wonder, what will become of them?
I wonder if that is what these little creatures are asking themselves too? But maybe they are further on, because look! There's the Easter Bunny. The cutest one you ever did see.

Overlanding

I have always, always wanted to go off travelling, but unfortunately it has never been possible, and still remains impossible at the moment. But one day I will go. I will. And I think maybe this will be how I do it.

I love these customised trucks which become your home from home. And the idea of going to remote places in a group and being kind of self contained really appeals.

I definitely want to go to South America, but I think my first trip would be through Africa. Maybe this trip to start with? It goes through the Sudan where we lived for 4 years.

If you look very carefully, that final photo has Machu Picchu in the background.

Winter at the seaside

That low winter sun which breaks through the clouds and makes a silhouette out of everything. It's good to be outside in January.

Watership down, the introduction

Over the weekend, I happened to see Watership Down, the film, which I have never seen before. I was taken with these rather striking illustrations at the beginning which seem to be based on tribal, probably aboriginal art.

Pinnochio

Such a good concept. It would be great if it happened in real life, people's noses getting longer when they tell you fibs. Imagine how much easier it would make things. Difficult for sales people though? :)'

Out and about

We've had some frosty mornings recently.
Look at this fellow I came across the other day. He ran towards me with his tail lashing from side to side like windscreen wipers on the fastest setting. Fair to say he was pleased with his stick! :)

Louis ghost chair

When we moved into this house I bought a very grown up Venetian glass dining room table. I wasn't sure about it to begin with but now I love it, and I love my collection of glass candlesticks on it too. But what I am not sure about are the mismatched wooden chairs which go with it, which came from my last house.
So what I am dreaming about are these Philippe Stark inspired Louis ghost chairs...

The man of the house says they may not be too practical. You see, once you move in with a man, that's the kind of word you have to start considering.

Etsy friend

For a while now I have been in conversation with a lovely girl on etsy called Donna, who owns the cutest shop called Blue Daisies.
She has recently bought one of my cushion covers and very kindly sent me a photo of the cushion in its new room.
Doesn't it look at home there with the beautiful painting of a mountain lake and the lamp with ric rac around it and the floral duvet cover and the shelves with cute things on them?
Happy :) Thanks Donna.

James Brown gives you dance lessons

Well you can't say fairer than that. Flippin' brilliant. You can either have it with him talking along to it, or someone has put it to dub music, which is fab-lous!
Get grooving :)

Actually, there's more..

Natural Homes

I have just come from a really inspiring yoga class. I am so infused with peace I feel almost catatonic. And then the first thing I saw when I logged into the computer was this facebook page, via a friend.
The message I took from the class was about remembering to find pockets of space both physically and mentally to help absorb all the blows that life inevitably hammers down on one.
Wouldn't it be lovely to live in a natural house like this and to feel close to nature?

Happy Birthday to the King!

Hold on, hold on, hold on. I've just realised the date. It's Elvis' birthday. He would be 77 years old today!

Dear Prudence

A song for the day.
As a teenager I was obsessed with certain bands, one of which was Siouxsie and the Banshees.
I didn't know this but this song was written by John Lennon about Mia Farrow's sister, Prudence. Interesting!
I like the cover.

Matisse happiness

Last night the man of the house came home telling me he had to do illustrations for a website using the lines of Matisse as an inspiration, but with only two colours and tones of them. Tricky. So we did a bit of research and I remembered how much I LOVE his work. Oh, the colours, the patterns, those still life paintings and those interiors. He caught me grinning at the screen and asked why. It was because looking at the images just made me feel happy.

Foxy footstool

There are quite a few little projects in the pipeline here at freckleface HQ.

This is a little footstool I bought at a car booty last summer for the princely sum of £2. I have been meaning to refurbish it for some time. I knew I wanted the fabric to be orange and white and quite graphic, but couldn't find exactly what I wanted. When I saw this tea towel by Lush designs, I decided it would do very nicely, thank you.

I had always remembered this picture by Kirchner because of the fantastic complementary colours in the dressing gown, and I knew I wanted to go for that contrast.
Anyway, here is the project from beginning to end.
